Worth noting is Rumah Sulaiman Belakang Kedai Ah Guat (House of Sulaiman Behind Ah Guat’s Shop) (2011) is also representative of a House as an installation—a notable motif in Shooshie’s practice as observed in our previous post (see: Together-Gather) for The Unstable Institution. A predecessor to another artwork of hers in SAM’s collection, the museum housing shooshie’s houses, is being reflected upon the discovery of this blue tile—reminding us that we do not exist in isolation, but are connect through shared histories, stories and affections.
The blue tile, a broken remnant from Shooshie’s first Singapore Biennale work was unpacked during the second Witnessing of Objects sessions we had with her in October 2024. It is the only remaining fragment from the artwork that has since been destroyed.
