Buka Tanah
Whenever Shooshie begins a new project in a new space, she likes to plant a tree. This marks both her presence in the land, at the same time, it serves as an offering to opening it up and a symbol of nurturing the relationship to the land in which she will be working on.
When we were planning for by way of slowing, one of the first things Shooshie asked us if she could plant a pisang tree within Tanjong Pagar District Park—we could not. Thankfully, by way of petanda (see: Together-Gather), when we reached out to Orang Laut SG to collaborate on this project, the timing was perfect and they were just about to open their new space, Tanah dan Air, in West Coast Park. They happily accepted Shooshie and her tree and hosted a private opening ceremony.
Invited guests to the private session brought composting materials to be added to the soil to nurture its growth.
Wild Dot Studio
While Shooshie was in Singapore, we paid a visit to wild dot’s (see: Soil) studio to take a look at how they grow and produce their own natural pigments in their garden.
Before we could leave, Shooshie spotted a new baby pisang growing, and 7 minutes before our Grab was to arrive, went to work harvesting it to bring home to her garden in Kuala Lumpur.
